AutoCAD Technician/Drafter
Job Title: AutoCAD Technician/Drafter (Residential/Commercial/Infrastructure Projects)

Key Responsibilities: Residential Projects:
- Prepare detailed floor plans, elevations, and sections for residential developments, including custom homes, subdivisions, and multi-family buildings.
- Ensure designs meet the National Building Code of Canada (NBC), local zoning bylaws, and energy efficiency standards like LEED for Homes.
- Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and interior designers to integrate aesthetic and functional elements into designs.
Commercial Projects:
- Draft layouts for commercial spaces, retail outlets, office complexes, and mixed-use buildings.
- Ensure compliance with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) codes for material and fire safety.
- Integrate designs for accessibility following the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) or equivalent provincial laws.
Infrastructure Projects:
- Develop designs for public infrastructure such as bridges, roadways, pipelines, and utility networks.
- Ensure alignment with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), CSA A23.1-14 (concrete), and CSA S16 (steel structures).
- Create stormwater management layouts and erosion control designs using Civil 3D and ensure compliance with provincial environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure optimal layouts for water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems under municipal standards and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) guidelines.
General Responsibilities:
- Interpret architectural, structural, and mechanical design concepts into accurate AutoCAD drawings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian construction manuals and ensure compliance with local zoning and planning regulations.
- Safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).
- Prepare as-built drawings upon project completion, ensuring they reflect all field modifications.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in AutoCAD drafting for (residential/commercial/infrastructure) projects.
- Proven knowledge of Canadian building codes, standards, and labor regulations.
Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Familiarity with Revit or BIM tools is an asset.
- Expertise in Canadian construction manuals such as:
- NBC for building code compliance.
- CHBDC for bridge design (if applicable).
- CSA Z797 for scaffolding safety (for industrial/infrastructure projects).
- Ability to analyze and apply field survey data to technical drawings.
- Skilled in preparing site grading, utility layouts, and stormwater management plans using GIS or modeling tools like EPANET.
Licensure and Certification:
- Certification or membership with organizations like OACETT (Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists).
- AutoCAD certification or equivalent training is preferred.
